MTA Karate Club changes for 2020

The end of 2019 marks major changes for the Mount Allison Shotokan Karate Club. The biggest being the change from MTA Shotokan Karate to Sackville Shotokan Karate.

This name change was done to make the club feel more open to Sackville community members. The club will still be referred to as the Mount Allison Shotokan Karate club on the campus.

With dwindling numbers and low class attendance, Sensei Norm Robitza decided to open the classes up to more people from the community. The current plan is to allow children from ages 10 and up to attend classes. This change will effect the schedule slightly. The new schedule is as follows:

Monday:

  • 6:00 – 7:00pm – Youth Class (Ages 10-12 yrs)
  • 7:00 – 8:00pm – Adult Class (Ages 13 yrs and up)

Wednesday:

  • 6:00 – 7:00pm – Youth Class (Ages 10-12 yrs)
  • 7:00 – 8:00pm – Adult Class (Ages 13 yrs and up)

Saturday:

  • 12:00 – 1:00pm – Advanced Training – All Ranks (Ages 13 yrs and up)
  • 1:00 – 2:00pm – Advanced Training – Brown and Black Belts Only!

NOTE: If no children or a low number of children sign up for classes, the schedule will change again.

These changes are being made in a hope that the club will be able to continue with new members from the community as well as new members from Mount Allison.

Looking forward to 2020.

Sensei Robitza wins gold

Sensei Norm Robitza was a last minute entry into the Maritime IKD tournament this weekend. He competed in the Adult Individual Kata and Adult Individual Kumite events.

“I wasn’t planning on competing. My mind was focused on judging,” he said.

Sensei Robitza won the kata and kumite division. The division was very small. Sensei Robitza only competed to help make the division viable.

“It was a good event with many students getting some much needed experience.”
